I just bought a USB DVD/CD Burner to do a fresh install of XP with. I have many programs custom made for work that do not work on vista and its giving me a headache.
Anyway with a USB CD Drive can I just format and install xp as with any other laptop or computer with a CD Rom drive? I saw if you use a USB Key along the installation it will just stop cause it loses the USB driver? and I set USB as the primary boot component.
2ndly - For the X61 in terms of drivers I can just have thinkpad system update on to download everything such as drivers and the other thinkvantage utilities like power manager and access connections?

As long as you have it set to boot from USB, you should be fine.
You can download System Update to install the drivers if you want. But if you want your system to run optimally, I recommend manually installing the latest drivers using the guide in my signature. -
Thanks arkit3ct most of the courage I got for performing this fresh install was from your awesome guide. Rep to you and keep up the good work.
