I currently have the Lenovo 3000 Y410 and I'm wanting to know if anyone has tried replacing the current (for me) Intel 3965ABG card with the Intel 4965ABGN or one of the newer Intel 5xxx series cards?

I've noticed that the 4965 gets a better signal in my HP than the 3965 does in the Lenovo, so I'm looking at either replacing the internal or going to an external unit.

    Thanks,
    Jason

I would think the it would be a simple swap, but I've never replaced one before.

If you have the Intel 945 chipset, it doesn't support the 4965AGN. The 4965 was introduced with the 965 chipset (Santa Rosa) and both the 3945ABG and 4965AGN are compatible. You'd just need to physically swap the cards (should be fairly easy) and download the drivers from Lenovo for the 4965.

The Intel WiFi Link 5100/5300 were introduced with GM45/GS45/PM45 chipsets (Montevina/Centrino2). They aren't compatible with any previous chipsets, so I'm almost certain they wouldn't work with your Y410.
