Yes, but it will void your warranty and you'll have to disassemble the laptop to do it so make sure you know what you're doing first!

based on my experience upgrading my y460 it's worth it to a certain extent

Ram--- it comes with 4gb, and i am not sure there is value in 8 unless your usage requires. questionable upgrade value here, if anything you can try to find lower latency memory while upgrading quantity

HDD--stock is low. upgrading to ssd makes pretty epic improvement. biggest improvement felt from this out of all upgrades done

wireless nic-- stock intel 1000 is ok but 6300 really goes. there are some for sale in nbr market at a good price

there is empty pcie slot in there--maybe wireless pcie modem for att/verizon connection. i don;t have one and can;t comment. this slot can also fit pcie ssd which maybe an interesting upgrade if you want a smaller cheaper ssd for os only

cpu-- i upgraded from i5 520m to i7 620m. it is quicker for me in games which wanted more cpu, and the additional turbo helps out for sure. if i woulda had to pay 350$+ for the i7 i woulda felt ripped off--there ia not enough real life performance gain to justify the price. luckily i got it used here on nbr market much cheaper so i think it was worth it. i am also selling my i5 520m i pulled from the y460. pm me if u want it

as far as warranty i can;t comment from my own experience with support (never called them) altho from user manual and hardware maintenance manual Lenovo considers this specific model cpu location "user serviceable and upgradeable" which includes area with CPU and RAM. bios supports up to i7 620m , the model with the 620 is sold in singapore only from what i can figure out

    cheers

ideapad got hardware maintenance manual now? never knew such thing existed for ideapad line.

and from what i could gather, ideapad usually have a tamper proof stickers that prevent users from detaching the heatsink and swapping out the CPU. But i could be off the mark for the later model of ideapads.

even though the heatsink and memory are both accessible under the same door, the actual fan/heatsink assembly is not considered by Lenovo as a customer-replaceable unit (CRU) or user serviceable.

they've actually been available for a while now.

had a look through the database, not all maintenance manual are available for every ideapad models that Lenovo have released in the past few years. y560 is the first to have one for the y5x0 series.

But it is good that Lenovo have started to released these maintenance manuals.
