More specifically with a Seagate Momentus 100GB - anyone been able to?
I tried to replace my original Hitachi 60GB with the Momentus and the T43 (2268CA2) just ground to a halt. Seagate tells me some vendors have not approved its use and unless they rewrite their BIOS I am stuck with a fast 2.5" 100GB caddie. Is there any workaround?
I also have an 80GB Samsung but I'm not sure if it's worth moving from 60 to 80, plus chances are, maybe that Samsung is not supported too. Anyone knows which HDD - make, capacity can be used for upgrades?
Thx
JP

Are you getting the 2010 error?
-
I can't remember if it actually said Error 2010 but it happened at boot-up and said something like the hard drive is not recognized. What is error 2010? And if it is 2010, do you know a way to work around it?
-
2010 is the famous hard drive error for T43 owners. search over at thinkpads.com, IIRC there is now a hard drive firmware available for some hard drives that allows them to work without the error.

OK thx for the tip; I have gone thru the 2010 threads elsewhere and it seems that I am indeed ending up with a fast 100GB 2.5" caddie

These are definately good questions. I have the 40gb hard drive in my T43. In the future I will be upgrading to a 100GB or larger drive. Is there a list of supported manufacturers for the T43. I find it difficult to believe that IBM does not support Seagate drives. One would think the largest hard drive maker would be supported. I realize that Toshiba and Hitachi are big in the notebook hard drive market though.

Buying from IBM will ensure compatibilty, but you'll pay an arm and a leg. ThinkPads tend to favor Hitachis since Hitachi bought IBMs disk drive division. Both of my ThinkPads came with Hitachi drives. As noted there is more info on this issue over on ThinkPads.com.

IIRC my T43 had a Fujitsu when I opened it up

My T43 has a Toshiba drive.

So much for Hitachis.

Press ESC if you see the Error 2010 and try to restore your system using the system recovery disc if you can see your hard disk in the BIOS. It shoud work.
I just installed a HITACHI 160 G hard disk and no problem using it except the annoying ERROR 2010 and the peep when start up the computer.
Upgrading your hard drive on a T43?
