I looked it up in the Tabook and I think you are correct. Thank you for that. Ideally I would like to have the lighter X200s with the longer battery life, but this certainly helps. Thank you !!!!

For the X200s you probably looking for Type 7469 with CCFL backlighting. I have found some searches on stores which provide this model type for your reference - link.

I wanted to ask if all model numbers have the same screen or does it depend on the part number.
Model Number: 74698SG
Part Number: NS48SMN
Now I found the specs for the above and it says backlit screen and it does not say LED so I think that means CCFL which I need.
The computer I am looking to buy has the same model number but a UK part number namely NS48SUK. Does that mean it also has the CCFL screen?
Thanks -
there isn't a european version of the thinkpad PSREF sheets.

Well the problem is that the above model I am talking about is a European X200s with WXGA. Neither myself nor the company that sells it seem to be able to find specifications that say WHICH screen it had CCFL or LED. The only thing I can find on Lenovo is this:
Product: ThinkPad X200s 7469-8SG [change]
Operating system: Windows Vista [change]
Original description: SL9600(2.13GHz), 2GB RAM, 250GB 5400rpm HD, 12.1in 1280x800 LCD, Intel X4500HD, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Vodafone WWAN, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32
does that say CCFL ? -
i can't change the fact that the info isn't widely available.
given that it has an SL9600, chances are that it's LED. -

Shame I tried calling Lenovo UK but nobody answers.... OK well I think the selling company is willing to start it up but does not know what to look for... it is also an open box ... is there anyhow they can see in the manual or by starting the computer and looking in what ? Thanks again
Edit: Erik I found this link. Could you have a look at it and tell me if that may say CCFL ?
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/no/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_NS48SMN?OpenDocument
The country code is MN instead of UK but model number is same
And on lenovo Sweden I found the same model number with Swedish country code:
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/se/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_NS48SMS?OpenDocument
I think the first link may have been Norway ? -
The link doesn't say. You need the part number of the screen. If they have the box or the machine they can use the serial number to do the parts look up. That will yield the screen part number, which will tell you whether it's CFFL or LED. I'd tend to agree with erik. It's most likely the LED screen.

like ZaZ said, ask the reseller for the serial number. if they'll provide it then we can walk you through how to find out exactly what display is installed.
outside of that, the only info i have on that model is what's on the sales site coupled with an experienced, educated guess about it having an LED backlight due to being new enough to include an SL9600. -

you are probably right but will ask the serial number. Thanks
-
perfectionseeker sent me the serial number of this unit and it appears to have a CCFL panel according to the parts system. the panel FRU is 42T0510.
i never would have guessed an SL9600 system was built with an old display. go figure. -

maybe cause it's Europe and they tend to be a bit behind ? Anyhow now I can hunt for an AFFS display but will take a look at CCFL as well. Still some concern about the track point but I am sure that will be fine. An SSD is probably the next purchase when I can afford it, or at least a 7200 rpm HDD does that speed things up compared to 5400 or not really ?
-
depends on the drive. some large 5400 RPM drives are faster than some small 7200 RPM drives simply because of their physical layout. generally speaking though, 7200 RPM drives are faster.
a high-quality SSD is the best way to go unless you need a lot of storage. large SSDs can be expensive.
