    Hi guys:

My cart is ready and I have a few questions.Would be grateful for anyones help.

    1. I travel frequently and will be relocating to India soon. Does it make sense to buy the extended warranty here or out there? If i buy warranty in the US, is it honored globally?
2.If I buy the base warranty here, can the add on be added at anytime in the future before it expires?
3.Is the webcam worth buying from lenovo or is any one from the market as good?
4.Between Vista Ultimate and Business which is a better option for t61? essentially does Ultimate mean its a 64 bit option and if yes, is that better?

i guess SSDs and processor refresh which was due in oct (as told to me by a lenovo employee arent happening just yet).

    many thanks.

    1. No.
    2. Probably. Not sure though, especially since you are moving overseas.
    3. It is cheaper to buy a webcam elsewhere. Look for models from Logitech, Creative and Microsoft.
    4. This would depend on what you are going to use your notebook for. For most tasks, 32-bit will suffice. Vista Ultimate is overkill, imho.

Buy extended warranty in the US. The warranty is worldwide and cheap in the US.
You can buy extended warranty, but I advise you to buy the full package with your laptop.
    Lenovo's T61 webcam is integrated.
Both Ultimate and Business can be found in x64 versions. Ultimate is the best, Business doesn't have Media Center. x64 is a better choice in my opinion.
jetstar Lenovo's warranty is an international one. The cheapest prices are in the US.

    thanks for your thoughts.
1.I called Lenovo and they said they advise buying warranty extension in country of residence. I am not sure if the US warranty will be applicable if i relocate elsewhere.
    2. t61p 15.4 has an integrated webcam? i cant seem to find it.i see it as an accessory.
3.how does one find the 64 bit business option? it doesnt show up while configuring the notebook. I always thought ultimate was too huge and slowed the system down? No?

    grateful for your advice.

I believe it will, but I don't want to rush you into anything. Extended warranty will probably be unavailable in most countries.
    The T61P doesn't have a webcam. I was referring to the T61.
It shows up (well it used to) or you can contact Lenovo requesting them to install Vista x64 for you. Ultimate doesn't slow down anything.

I have a friend who was going to buy a Lenovo, and he was told that the CTO models do NOT have an international warranty and there are only a handful that are supported in India (where he was taking it to). I think to change the system warranty, in some instances like adding accidental damage, it has to be done within 21 days of purchase. You can probably extend the existing level of service as long as it is not expired.

The T61p does NOT have a WebCam and it is not an option. You'll have to go the Logitech route.

Business 64 was in the list when I ordered, some of the options come and go and depend on model.

I don't understand why CTOs wouldn't have international warranty...
You can check that on Lenovo's page anyway.

That's what he was told. There are a handful of preconfigured models that have in country support. My presumption is that they stock service parts on a more limited basis in the different geos. He had similar luck with HP and Dell, and ended up getting a Dell Vostro and is "taking his chances".

this link suggests that they have intl warranties in India.

is international warranty different from extended warranty?

Yes. Extended also covers accidental damage.

If I type in 6459 (the machine code from my 61p) India is not in the list.
Same for my X61t (7764), but I do get a longer list on the X.

    i am confused.
does this mean if i buy a t61p with 3 year depot warranty service upgrade, that it will work in India?machine code is 7658

    Or

That i have to send the machine back to the US?

if you look under warranty upgrade in that link it does NOT mention India but it does mention it for international warrantty coverage.

    grateful for your advice.

Looks like there is warranty coverage in India for that model number. I would definitely call Lenovo and confirm before ordering.

For the T61, I have the mini dock right here. It has DVI but no HDMI or SVideo.
