So I have 4 gigs of ram installed, and it says that only 2.46 gigs is usable. I understand that there is overlap with the video card, but I don't think the math is correct when the FireGL on the W500 only has 512 mb of memory. Also, shouldn't the amount of usable ram change when I switch to integrated graphics?

If you want more ram available in a 32bit OS, then dump gpu-switching via the bios, and choose the gpu you want to stick with. Alternatively, just move to a 64bit version of your OS.
