How can we use the express card slot? It's on my T61 but I've never used it. I must have paid for it![]()

It's an expansion port for adding functionality to a laptop. Don't worry, it didn't cost you anything extra.

ExpressCard is the replacement for PCMCIA (smaller and higher bandwidth).
You can use it to add a wide variety of interfaces, ports, etc. to your notebook. This includes cellular modems, card readers, NICs, eSATA, Firewire, extra USB ports, Flash memory, TV tuners, etc.
This is a list of a variety of hardware as maintained by the ExpressCard organization.
Basically it gives you extra flexibility. The small size of a notebook prevents it from offering every interface (many lack Firewire, ESATA, Parallel, Serial, and WWAN for example). The end user can buy an express card that adds the port(s) he/she needs. However, if you are satisified with the ports and connectivity options on your ThinkPad, then you have no need for one at present.
