    Not sure what to do.

Time to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 8600 as its too heavy.

I've read all the similar threads, and I have to choose between a used "X200, 4GB ram, 250GB HHD, a/b/g wireless, 6-cell battery, warranty" @ aud$600; or a new X201 i5 (i7 not in Australia).

Not sure whether to wait for the X201 i7, spend the extra thousands on the X201 i5, or buy the used X200...

I'll be running edius neo2, metatrader4, office, & surfing the web.

    ... what would others do?

If the X200's 6-cell can hold > 80% charge and it still has some remaining warranty then the x200 is a good deal @AU$600. Leaves plenty of change for a SSD or a 9-cell battery.

A new i3 x201i starts at US$830, double that in Australia.

600 dollars for a X200 in Australia is a steal, the average going price for the X200 in Australia is around starts at 800 dollars for a second hand model. I sold mine for around 950 dollars 1.5 month ago (A1 condition).

What's a second hand Thinkpad X61 worth in AUD$ as it may be a viable alternative ?

depends on condition, but they are often advertised for around 500 to 700 dollars depending on spec and condition. I would avoid the X61 with the T7xxx CPU, since they do run hot and make it less useful as a laptop (more like lap burner on a hot day).

Currently, Lenovo is selling X200s off their website for 1099 dollars, which is extremely good for a new machine. I just ordered one (i don't know why, but the price and urge to have a X20x machine just made me pulled the trigger). I only wished that Lenovo have offered me the X200t for 1100 dollar like last time.

Yes Lenovo do move their prices around and have great sales (marketing ploys). I noticed a 35% coupon about a month ago in Australia for the X20x. How often do they offer such big discounts?

(I held out on that discount at the time, as I thought the i7 would be re-released soon. But now I doubt it and wish I had pulled the trigger as well, and bought the thing. I had only just found out how good they are)

currently, a brand new X200s is at 999 dollars AUD on Lenovo.com.au

    enter the code: AUPEDMCLEARANCE.

This is the cheapest you will get for a brand new X200s.
