Hi,
I paid $515 for a used thinkpad t400 bought a few days ago. It is a nice laptop but, I really worried that i paid too much for it and should have bought a new one instead. The laptops screen and casing are new, without even a scratch, which makes feel a little better.
Here are specs:
- Intel Centrino Core2Duo P8400 processor @2.26GHz (3MB L2 Cache)
- 2GB DDR3 PC3-8500 RAM (max. 4GB)
- 120GB SATA hard drive - tested perfect with no bad sectors, running silently @7200 rpm
- 14.1" WXGA TFT LCD w/CCFL Backlight - maximum resolution 1440 x 900 @ 60Hz
- Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD w/vPro Technology
- Conexant stereo sound system
- DVD SATA optical drive (reads CDs and DVDs, does NOT burn either)
- UltraNav Trackpoint and Touchpad with 2 mouse buttons each
- Standard ThinkPad 101/102-key keyboard US
- Audio in/Audio out jacks
- Express card slot
- PCMCIA slot
- Integrated 56K v.92 modem
- Integrated Intel 82567LM 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN
- Integrated Mobile Broadband WLAN
- Integrated Intel WiFi Link 5100AGN Wireless adapter
- 6-cell high capacity LiIon battery (currently holding 100% charge, battery not warranteed)
- S-Video out port
- 3 USB 2.0 slots
- AC Adapter + power cord
- Operating system: Windows Vista Business 32bit
It also comes with NBD onsite repair warranty until 2012. I verified this with Lenovo as people told me that is the first thing i should do.
Thus, I was wondering what is the true value of this laptop? What would be fair price for this type of used laptop?
Did i get ripped off? I saw some BRAND NEW sl400s from the 450s?
I posted this on another forum and did not get much of a response so, please help me out.
anyway, thanks in advance

Seems reasonable. That'd be close $1000 new. And a T400 is way better than a SL400, new or not.
-
it may be stolen
-
sounds like a good deal. 3 year on site warranty is i think $200 alone.
As stated by keltix, it's actually possible it might have been stolen. But a good deal nonetheless
.

I wouldn't say you got ripped off.
This is the integrated graphics version of the T400, though, not the switchable graphics model, so it could probably be bought in the $700's new with some good Lenovo coupon deals and CPP. A 3-year warranty will push it into the low $900's new, probably.
One quirk I see is that the T400 does not have S-video out, yet it's listed as having it in the specs you posted. -
it's probably around that price from Lenovo outlet
-
Why do you say that?
So you think the price is reasonable for the specifications then?
Yes my mistake, it doesn't have an S-Video out.
One question though guys, how come one can get a Thinkpad SL400 with similar specifications for $500 that is BRAND NEW?
That is what made me nervous in the first place. seeing all of these other laptops with similar specs being sold for 500-600 for very similar specs.
thanks,

The SL series is far inferior build quality wise than the T series. Specs may fool you because spec wise they are similar. The SL series is much thicker, made of weaker plastics, no magnesium roll cage, glossy screens, and all in all a cheaper built product. It is an entry level Thinkpad (although myself and others don't even classify it as a true thinkpad). The T series on the other hand is Lenovo's premier Thinkpad Platform. Trust me, you got an amazing deal on that T400 with that good warranty. Enjoy it!

Here is the refurbished T400 I bought from Lenovo outlet a few days. I paid $740 before tax. It is shipped, but I have not got it yet. Can somebody suggest a few things/steps to test/verify refurbished T400?
Thanks!

that seems like a good price. crappy netbooks cost around that these days and as do crappy dells and hps.
its a fair price i'd say. -
No it isn't. OP got a pretty decent deal.
If you were talking about amazing deals for refurb dell latitudes...ok well then yes around $500 is possible. -
So is ideapad y530 cheap plastic as well? It felt sturdy compared to HP.
-
Wait who mentioned the ideapad...? They are suppose to be pretty nice.
-
It may do compared to an HP, but if you compare it to a T series thinkpad there is no contest. You can do things like holding the entire laptop by the corner of the lcd screen and see none (or infantessimally small) amounts of flex.

this just in: i would tickle a cat 'til it loses hair to get a t400 for sub 600 usd. i mean, that's 432€. for this price i could fly to the usa, get a t400, drink several beer, fly home again and still would have money left for some more beers..
-
That's a good deal.
I got my T400 with a 160GB 5400rpm, 1280x800, Vista Biz+Ultimate+XP, and 3 year warranty for around $7xx. Second hand but practically new.
Used t400 did I get ripped off?
