I have a 60GB HD in my thinkpad which also contains the hidden recovery partition. I want to make a 10 GB partition using gparted. Is it safe to use gparted to partition the hd even though it contains the hidden recovery partition? Thanks

I think you will be fine. when you run gparted, it will detect two partitions, the hidden one (about 5 GB for me) and the other one. You'll want to resize the other one and create the 10 GB with that.
I had to do something similar when I installed Ubuntu 7.10 as a dual boot option.
Also, you should defragment your disk before running gparted. -

Check out Life Hacker. Can anyone tell us how using the Vista tool will affect the hidden recovery parition? I don't want to mess it up.
