I don't have a Windows XP disc so I did the next best thing which was to use the built in systems recovery and customize the recovery and delete all of the softwares I didn't want. I only kept multimedia center and some of the thinkvantage softwares. When it was finished, I went into my hard drive and found the following folders.
Documents and Settings
I386
Support
SWTOOLS
Windows
drivers
Program Files
SWSHARE
VALUEADD
Can someone tell me what the following folders are for: SWTOOLS, SWSHARE and VALUEADD. I used the laptop for about 8 months before doing the recovery so I am wondering if some of the folders/files carried over to the new recovery. I did a fresh XP recovery on my Dell desktop some time ago and I don't remember seeing as many folders right after the recovery. Thanks.

I'd back up the SWTOOLS and the i386 folders -
SWTOOLS is the only essential folder I know of. It containts all of your drivers and software that came form a factory install. Once you perform a custom install, I believe the i386 folder will still be there.
A custom install is a factory install without the unnecessary programs. -
I have a problem using System Recovery - Product Recovery Discs. I just installed a new harddrive (Hitachi Travelstar 7K320 320 Gb) and wants to use my Product Recovery Discs to make a factory fresh installation on my T61.
I have used the Thinkpad R & R for making these discs (as far as i remember). There are a T61 Start Recovery CD, and then 2 DVDs Product Recovery Disc I and Product Recovery Disc II.
I start up from the CD, and Lenovo Product Recovery loads. After selecting language settings, and accepting the Terms & Conditions it asks me to insert Operation System Recovery Discs, please insert Disk 1 into drive D:. Then it says "This is not the correct disc. Please remocve the disc and press OK." I have tried with Disc II first, but it doesnt work either.
Please help me! What am I doing wrong? -
