Does anyone here use the Zalman NC1000 notebook cooler with their T series? I have a 15.4" T61p scheduled to arrive in a few days and am interested in buying this cooler for gaming, video editing, and other high demand tasks. I hear the NC1000 blows in to the bottom of the laptop, but do not see any vents based on images I've been able to find online.
If anyone can comment on the effectiveness of the NC1000 on cooling their T-series Thinkpads, that would be great. Thanks!

Hi,
i would save my money!
Thinkpads are designed for extensive use and don´t get so hot like
any other similar specs laptops from other brands. -
I second that, my T61 might not be the fastest of the lot (1.8ghz, T7100 CPU) but it runs extremely cool, gets slightly warm under load.
Unlike my old laptop (Acer garbage) used to make my hands sweat just from typing in Word.. used to get very hot! -
mine with battery, 7200rpm hdd, t9300, 570m runs very quiet even under full load (f@h gpu), and cool.
-
I have the zalman, and I use it more as a lap desk. It does keep things nice and cool for your lap, but the laptop runs fine without it.

I have one too, I could take some pictures for you if you'd like with the laptop on the cooler.
EDIT: Shoot me a pm if you'd want some pictures and I'll post them in this thread or email them to you. -
i was honestly just about to make a thread just like this... i was thinking of ordering one of these, but i wanted to know if anyone else has used one with a t61p and if it's worth it. my gets sorta toasty when playing games, and yesterday when i received another blue screen while playing WoW (it was after i exited the game, i'm running the 174.74 drivers from laptopvideo2go). i received this same blue screen with the first drivers i installed (169.xx [?] i think), so i went over to 174.74 and everything was good until yesterday when i received the BSOD again complaining about a video memory manager error.
i don't know if it's heat related or what, but when playing on it with it on my lap, it does get warm.
is it worth it to get this cooler? -
Based on what everyone says, it's a nice cooler but not really necessary. Is this the case? I was thinking of getting it to keep my Thinkpad as cool as possible because I want this thing to last as long as possible. Will using this to keep the machine cool prolong its life?

if anyone says "yes it's good for the t61p" i will most likely buy it. newegg has it for $39.99.

Here are the pictures! I bought the cooler at Compusa when it was still a store in my area, good times. I could do some temp readings later on today if anyone requests (with/without the cooler) to show the difference (if any, I have never tested with an actual meter).
-
nice pics, really puts it in perspective.
Request for cooling effect on laptop right here! If u have the time that is. -
-
i still think i might buy one regardless of how "cool" a t61p runs. it's not that cool when playing games, my legs start burning up lol. i

Does anybody know of a program that is good for logging/recording temperatures?
On a side note, this cooler imo does look much nicer and classier compared next to some of the other models. I bought mine for well over $40 and if it was for $40 I would buy it. -
I use CPUID Hardware monitor ( http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php) to check the temps on my T61. I too was thinking of getting the NC100, is your machine a 14.1" or 15.4" thinkpad? b/c it looks like its a little too big for the cooler. I hear the NC200 is bigger so I might get that if the NC100 is a little too small for my 14.1" T61.

To the person with the pics. Try moving the notebook over the bottom rubber stopper and down further, your intake fan would mostlikly fit better over the vents hence better intake and better cooling
-
Getting a cooler for the T61p if you do heavy gaming is not a bad idea at all.
I don't know if it's because I'm running the modded drivers, but the laptop does get very warm at the top left corners both keyboard and underside. -

Thanks for the pictures, these really tell me a lot about how my Thinkpad will fit on the Zalman. Also, I'm looking forward to your temperature change results with the cooler as well. Thanks again

I just got my T61p in the mail a couple days ago, and I'm looking to buy a cooler, as well. I see that there are several vents near the edge of the bottom of the computer (most notably the laptop's fan vent). Would it be better to get the NC2000 so that those vents will get additional circulation, or is the NC1000 sufficient?
Using Zalman NC1000 on T-series?
