I would like advice on choosing a USB powered external drive with the 3000 N100 laptop. I've tried a Seagate 120 Free Agent and it didn't work - drive wouldn't spin up reliably and it couldn't be accessed. There may have been an issue with the drive itself, since it gave the same problem with a desktop too.

    Any suggestions welcomed!

I bought a case and a hard drive from newegg. I got a hitachi 7k200 and a 2.5 inch external case powered by USB, and it runs real slick. It was quite a bit cheaper than buying an assembled one. It is really easy to do too.

Did the Seagate have a partition?
