My colleague uses VMWare Server on Windows 7 no problems. He's a software engineer so he has to use a variety of operating systems though mainly its Windows XP and Red Hat Linux he uses for his virtual machines. Make sure you enabled Intel VT Virtualization in the BIOS and allocate a healthy dose of RAM to cater the host as well as the virtual machines.

Is it better than Virtual PC?

I believe so yes, I use VMWare myself (though the Workstation variant) and compared to VirtualPC it feels much more speedier and more manageable. It doesn't actually feel sluggish using VMWare, I use it regularly at home on my desktop in times when I need to use legacy software on XP and speed wise it feels almost 1:1 (though it may be the desktop's Core 2 Duo and 8GB RAM setup that may have helped!). Since VMWare Server is free it shouldn't hurt to give it a try, but you should be able to notice the speed difference between the two.

Will do. I tried XP on Virtual PC and seems to be exceedingly slow but I didnt do any RAM allocation etc. to it. The thing is with Virtual PC you get the free XP OS.

Also does VMWS have an internal firewall?
