I just read the frontpage post about the Lenovo Y410 using its webcam for facial recognition log in into Windows Vista. Anyone know anything about this software or if it's compatible with ThinkPad line notebooks?

I cannot find any place where i could download it on the web. This is odd. there is absolutely no mention of this software other than on product descriptions for the Y410

I downloaded the software and it works fine on my ThinkPad Z1t . But there are a lot of limitations like you dont have to put glasses, or re-enroll if you have changed in appearance. It works, but can be said to be a slow way of logging in than the fingerprint reader or even a regular password typing user.

It did not allow me to login even if there is a change in the distance between your face and the camera on the laptop. Thanks to onion for posting the link.

I don't think it's the software, I think it's Vista, as I just had a BSOD after my TP wake up from sleep.

    Thanks for the link!! :)

I downloaded veriface. I tried on two laptops both Lenovo 3000 N100 one has Windows Vista (no finger print scanner) and the other Windows XP (with fingerprint scanner). It works gr8 on the Vista (without fingerprint scanner) one but, when I try to install it on the XP (with fingerprint scanner) one, it doesn't install and gives me a msg "Designed for Lenovo only".

Both the laptops are Lenovo, same model Lenovo 3000 N100.

Is there anything I can try to make it work on the other one too..

    Thanks,
    Pradeep

its woks fine on the t61 with vista. just after sleep you have to log on manually swipe finger or password as the green light turns on, but the image freezes.

Im just worried will this burn out my web camera for leaving it on to much?

I use my webcam about 6 hours a day, 5 days a week for the past 4 months and it still works perfect. I'm sure manufacturers who produce integrated camera had durability in mind.

i got a bsod a few hours after installing this software..and i removed it and no bsod's since...so maybe it's not really designed for the t61

I just thought of something, could you take a picture of the person that the VeriFace is assigned to, turn the computer on, and have it scan the picture of that person?

    Yay loopholes!

From what I can gather, if you put it at the highest security settings, it'll only pick up on your face in the same lighting and position as you set it. Good news is that it won't really pick up on pictures, but I have yet to try a larger one. It's got a few neat features such as it'll peroidically check to make sure that you're at the laptop, and if someone/no one is there, it'll lock itself. You can also encrypt files using it, but so far I've only seen that options on .zip and .exe, but I haven't really had time to mess with it.

When installing VeriFace message appears on Lenovo ThinkPad T61p - is Designed only for Company Lenovo. The Installation soft does not go. And that to do? Can someone has no packet installation EXE, but RAR or ZIP compiling. Can VeriFace is not intended for ThinkPad T61p?

This software came on a Lenovo CD with my Y310a, at first I thought it was pretty cool when I saw it at the shop, but in the end I didn't even install it on my own machine. :p

Veriface does work on certain non-lenovo laptops. Does anyone have the latest version of Veriface ? I believe it's 2.0

Toshiba has a Face Login, which looks very nice and Asus has Smart Logon which looks sweet.

VERIFACE 2.0 OR THE LATEST version anyone?

I tried a few,but none (that i have found) actually use the native vista logon screen, ect. this is byfar the best i've seen. I can only get to the part of enrollment where it tells me "Failed to get data from camera. The camera may not have been plugged in or preoccupied."

Any idea why? If its just that it needs to be a Lenovo product it woulndn't hurt me to change a little registry to make it work.

And ofcourse if any body has any good software suggestions that work on vista. please share.

    Thank you
