I ordered a t61 few days ago and I was really disappointed by the customer service. It takes more than one day for them to reply. The worst thing is that the shipping date is 9/29!! It sounds like a joke.
I just canceled my order. Now I need to find a good alternative.

Yeah, their service is bad. I ordered my R61 06/01, and it arrived 07/07.

Does anyone know if there is much difference within the t7700 and the t9300?
I found a preconfigured one at Newegg. It seems to be a bit expansive, but it is worth to consider.

I bought a preconfigured one from cdw.com. I ordered it last Thursday and I got it yesterday. It would have probably gotten here earlier if it wasn't for the Fourth of July.

Their service is much better when it comes to the warranty. It's kind of odd, but I'm not complaining. That's when it counts.

FWIW, I ordered my X61s on 7/01. The 4 cell, bluetooth mouse, and trackpoint nubs shipped on 7/03. The laptop shipped today, 7/09. They were estimated to ship on 7/22.

Besides, it's a custom built machine, I'd rather they take their time than rush their builders into sloppiness.

The T9300 will be a good bit faster per clock, and run significantly cooler per clock. Go for it. But Newegg doesn't typically have the best prices. Find a model you like in the tabook (linked in this forum's sticky) and froogle for the model.

    Thanks for the useful information.
It seems that it is impossible to find one with WUXGA and T9300.
Do I really need to make this choice?

One more question: when it is written 2Gb of Ram, does it usually mean that 2+0 or 1+1 (in other words, can I add 2 more)? How can I find this out?

    Thanks

WSXGA+ isn't exactly pedestrian, and the T8300 has many of the benefits of the T9300.

Or you could be patient and place another custom order :)

2gb is usually 1+1 if not otherwise stated. 2 DIMMS

It details that in the memory specs underneath the model list on each page.

    Thanks again for your help.
Yes, I think I can be happy with the WSXGA+ (I don't see the T8300 as an option either, but it is ok).
Do you know if the ram is 2+0 or 1+1?

I see. So it seems it is impossible to get t9300 + 4gb. Quite weird.

But, if you get it with 2GB in a single slot, the upgrade is fairly easy. Here's a direct link to the service manual pdf.

Yes, but how do I get it with 2GB in a single slot?
According to the manual it is always 1+1. Shall I just get in touch with the retailer?

RAM modules comes in different sizes as you probably know. e.g. 512mb, 1gb, 2gb etc.
So simply purchasing a 2gb stick/module of ram will let you use just one slot in the ram compartment in your notebook. The other ram compartment can be left empty without any problems. ie. 2+0 will work

    mrwoody,
I have ordered 2 T61's over the last few months and they have arrived very quickly and much more in advance than was stated as the expected arrival date. I got my first machine in 7 days(was in my hands on day 7) and my recent T61p I got in 10 days and that was with the very hard to get 9 cell battery. My T61p had an original wait of more than a month, but it got to me much quicker. If you can be patient then I think it would be to your advantage since you will get what you want rather than getting something now and kicking yourself later. Up to you, not sure how urgent your need is(i.e need is tomorrow). Lenovo is a little strange in the way they do things, but if you order and let it run its course through the system without customer service intervention, things should be fine.

Actual statistic of order and deliver date. This is very unacceptable. It sounds like Lenovo is having problem in their supply chain. In 2008, you should not have to wait a month for a notebook to be built, no matter where the parts come from or availability.

Bad management of supply chain= unhappy customers=loose sales(as seen here.)

Yes, but I was trying to say is this. If I buy from a retailer which provides 2gb of ram as 1+1 then if I want to upgrade to 4gb I need to throw away the old one. So I was wondering if there is a way to get 2+0 instead (so that I can easily upgrade to 4)

Thanks for your msg. In my case, I cannot take the risk, because I leave the country in Aug. 20.

Damn, I'm only seeing one model, with a T8300, but it's an educational model. There's the 6460-05U with a T8100 and one 2GB stick, and the 6460-DUU has a T8300 and a single 1GB stick so it should be cheaper if you decide to just buy your own 4GB set. You can always hawk the stock RAM.

    Maybe a 6460-DVU? It's $1720 at Superwarehouse.
The Nerds has the 05U for under $1400
The DUU doesn't look very available...
