    I have 2 w520

    w520a
    w520b

and I have 2 2nd hard drive caddies

CaddyA (has the plastic nub and lock slot built in. I bought it off an auction site but specifically made for the w520)
CaddyB (universal caddy, had it also working in my probook and tecra, I just need to remove the optical bay bracket and locking bracket from the lenovo dvd burner and attach it the hd caddy)

CaddyA works in both w520a and w520b
CaddyB works in w520a but is not detected in w520b bios or the boot list

the only difference between w520a (1.36 bios for 1600mhz ram) w520b (1.40 bios)

The caddy seems like a very simple pass through, I can't understand why caddyB works in w520a but not in w520b but CaddyA works in both w520a and w520b.
