I made a short video of my X230 and my Zenbook Prime. I stated in the video that I would return the Zenbook but honestly after seeing the screen on the X230 compared to the Zenbook, I'm not so sure any more. The Zenbook's screen is ridiculously crisp and bright (1920x1080).

Anyway, I thought this comparison may help any on the fence. I'm 50/50 right now. Can't decide what to keep (I have a FHD T520 for home use).

I did the same thing, although I didn't have enough time to keep my Ultrabook for a verses round (Sony VAIO T). I made a series of videos here...

It is funny because after using the Ultrabook for 3 weeks, I realized that I needed more and decided the ThinkPad X230 was the perfect choice for me. I was lucky because the Sony and the Lenovo both have the same screen resolution and also have an mSATA slot (main reason I went with the ThinkPad).

One thing I was pleased with was the size of the 9-cell. It's really small. Given the small $40 premium over the 4-cell (when buying new) I'd say go for it. It's light and the benefits of the extra battery life is well worth the incremental cost.

Lenovo agreed to take it back with no restocking fee. Now I've got to decide which machine to keep. The screen of the Prime really is buttery smooth and so beautiful. If it was a lower resolution, I'd keep the X230 in a heartbeat. Now that I've compared the screens, the X230 looks like a screen door. I can see individual pixels. It's hard to "un-see" the FHD screen on the Prime. And that's even with the IPS screen on the X230...

I wear glasses (don't have perfect eye sight) so I like the lower res screen. Man, I'm glad I saw your post and video before I started my weekend. LOL!

How did you get them to take it back with no restocking fee?

I had a note on my account where I tried to cancel it before it shipped, but couldn't (was showing "sent to manufacturing" but shipped that day).

It's obviously opened but they didn't say anything about it. I clearly asked about a restocking fee and he said no.

I'm sure they will hit me with a fee though. Sure hope not. There's a note on my account anyway, so we'll see.

You've been the most helpful at making my ThinkPad X230 experience (when I get it) the best one! I appreciate it and for answering all my questions. Good luck to you. Hope you keep your ThinkPad but if you don't, thanks again for the vid.

    You're video was very helpful!

I just ordered the X230 with the 9 cell battery & the 6 cell slice battery. I'm planning to dock mine to a 28" monitor and when I'm moving around, the batteries should last me a while (I hope!).

I'm going to upgrade the RAM myself to Corsair Vengeance 16gb and a Crucial M4 512gb SSD, just waiting for the items to arrive.

My work computer is also a Lenovo T410, so I'm going to find the dock handy to use at home.

What sort of battery life have you gotten from the 9 cell?

is the series 3 mini dock compatible with an x-series as well?

I've got the ultrabase but if mini docks compatible with both T and the X man..that would be sweeeet as hell with me having both T420 and an x220.

Yeah that combo should work, I have the mini dock plus which I'm planning to use with the T410 & the X230. You'll just have to adjust the back sliding part to custom fit either laptop.
