Im about to buy a t420 and keep seeing comments about getting an extra year of depot warranty if you pay with a visa. I cant seem to find threads on this that arent a few years old. Do you have to do something during or before purchase or is it automatically added. Also if I upgrade to onsite does that mean Visa will give me an extra year of on site or is it an extra year of depot?
Thanks in advance. Im so excited for my first thinkpad!

Only the bank which issued your card can definitively answer that question for you.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Most extend the manufacturer's limited warranty (depot warranty) but it is through the card company. But as Jane stated above, your best bet would be to contact Visa.

All AMEX cards have this feature too, I think.

jane is exactly correct.
if your bank covers you, find out exactly how they handle service during the second year. your system would show up in lenovo's warranty database as being expired. find out how your bank deals with this.
also keep in mind that even if your issuing bank does cover your system an extra year, if you extend your warranty after it has expired with lenovo then it will be considered a post-warranty extension and quite expensive compared to an in-warranty extension. on a system you plan to keep for a while, you might end up spending more.
you need to do your homework on this one.
