I ordered my T400 last week and chose Vista Business 32bit since the sell rep told me it would be advantageous to take that option if I didn't use any 64bit specific programs do to some compatibility issues. Little did I know that the 64bit version was faster and had better security than its 32bit counterpart. (as seen in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=289874 )
Now, it seems I can't just call and ask to change the OS of my order, I need to cancel it and make a new one...
So the dilemma raises...Should I stick to the 32bit or reorder for the 64 and wait even longer to get this delicious laptop?

If you don't know: go 32 bit.

If you're not using 4 GB or more RAM, I suggest you stay with 32-bit for now. -
"Right now, I'm writing this on a system running 64-bit Windows Vista with 4GB of memory. So far, my experiment with 64-bit Vista has been mostly positive, though VPN is still lacking, and I'd love to have a 64-bit Nikon NEF (raw file) codec."
Ouch! I didn't know that. I ordered a T400 with 64bit Business. Cisco vpn client is not available in 64bit, and knowing Cisco, it probably never will be. Ugh.
Can I use the key code for Vista with a 32bit Business version? Or should I change my order? It hasn't shipped yet. -
Yes your key will work with both 32 and 64, you just need to find yourself the 32-bit DVD. But of course it will be less trouble if you can change the order, this way you won't have to reinstall the system right away, unless you've already planned doing that?
-
Well, I hadn't planned on doing that, but I certainly could. If you're sure the 64bit key works with the 32bit version, I'm gonna stick with it. I don't want to take a change having my order delayed!
-
Yeah I'm 100% sure the key works for both.
-
Sweet, good enough for me!

The Cisco AnyConnect VPN client supports x64, but I haven’t used it. However, I imagine most VPN clients do not currently do x64.

Thats good to know, thank you!
