I am configuring a T500 and recalled that it had driver issues and didn't like Vista 64bit. What say you regarding getting 64 Vs. 32.

Also, do most of you think the thumb reader is a novelty item?

What driver issues? 64-bit Windows has its own drivers.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit on my T500, and so far everything is fine. I did a clean install after I got the laptop to get rid of all the bloatware though.

I was thinking it had problems running some 32bit programs. If not why are people still buying the 32bit Vista if 64 is available>

I'm sure there are loads of really old applications that won't run on 64-bit. Also, 64-bit seems to like more RAM. But I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to be running a 64-bit OS now if you can. The best thing to do is review each application you will be running on your machine to see if it supports 64-bit OS.

The 32-bit programs are run in 32-bit mode. You'll notice a "Program Files" folder for the 64-bit native apps, and a "Program Files (x86)" folder for 32-bit native apps. The 32-bit apps use the "WOW" (windows on windows) mode for 32-bit emulation. Everything I've tried works fine so far. It's usually the apps made by smaller devs that may run into problems.

Some ancient software won't work though... I tried installing my 8 year old HP Photosmart, and HP's site states "No drivers available for Vista, please upgrade printer"!!

RE: Fingerprint Reader: Yes- Novelty item. But for $10 more, why not?
