My Lenovo X60 Tablet died. It was running Vista. I removed the HD and put it into a Nextar 3 enclosure. The Screen died on the X60 and that is why I removed the HD. I was hoping to get to the files on the HD.

Well, my XP computer sees the drive but says that it is not formatted. Is there a compatibility issue between Vista and XP? Would hooking it up to a Vista machine allow me to get to the files?

have you tried to boot from the HD you pulled from your tablet?

You should be able to do that, and just save the files onto a flash drive or DVD or some other media format.

Not an option. Was just wondering if it was as simple as a compatibility issue between XP and Vista. My next step will be to track down a friend running Vista and see if it works that way.

    ntfs has several versions.

I remember once when I was installing w2k to a blank drive and had a secondary one XP formatted. the installer could not see the second drive but instead of ignoring it, wiped its contents clean with no notice.

so I'd try again on a vista system

You should be able to see the files.
Maybe the HDD is corrupted. Try this on a command box:
    chdksk <drive letter> /f /r

and let Windows check the drive, maybe the HDD have errors it happens sometimes.
