When I ordered my yet to be delivered T61 i chose the most basic version of vista available. This is because my college gives out to all students a free Vista Ultimate upgrade.

I'm not sure whether they give 32 or 64 bit versions but does anyone have any experience with Ultimate on a thinkpad and if it is better significantly then the basic/ office etc versions?

Also is 32 or 64 bit better?

    Thanks in advance

for now 32 bit is probably the way to go. the basic version has very watered down multimedia capabilities and lacks the aero interface

Applications run a little slower on 64 bit Vista I believe. But that's what RAM is for!

Given that Vista is such a dog, I put 4GB into my X61s and consequently choose to run 64-bit Ultimate (with no problems, yet).
