    Hi,

I have a problem with my new t61p, whenever i install something on Vista, it goes very very slow, like 10mb files will take upwards of 8-10 minutes to copy.

WHAT is happening!! I researched it a bit and a suggestion was to turn off indexing on the HDD etc. I did all that and its still slow!

    Anyone know why?

Do you have AHCI on in your bios? Do you have the chipset drivers installed?

I do have the chipset drivers installed, but i do not know what AHCI is.
Microsoft installed it's drivers for the chipset though, but I removed those and replaced it with intel ones.

    OK,

AHCI is a set of optimizations controlled by your BIOS.

Do an orderly shutdown and see if AHCI is enabled. Usually Vista is not installable from a DVD when the BIOS is set to AHCI.
