Just incase anybody searches for any info on it...

I recently installed Vista on my thinkpad z61t with only 1gig of ram and it runs very nicely. Aero also runs well. I could play music, run ie, and make large file transfers w/o any problems. ...just putting some answers out there to questions I had before I made the switch.

p.s. vista rocks....xp seems old now, haha

Its mostly the multitaskers/powerusers that say its best to have 2 gigs of ram. For casual usage you can get away with 1 gig.

I mostly went with 2 gigs on my laptop just to make sure I have it if I need it.

Not to mention ram was/is cheap.
