If I order a Thinkpad X61s with Vista Business x86, can I install Vista Business x64 using the same x86 key?
-
bump .... good question
-
IMO you can...........atleast I did use the same key for 32 and 64 bit vista ultimate
-
I belive it is possible. When i recieved my express upgrade (x86), the key in the system properties stated it is XXXXX- OEM-XXXXXXX-XXXXX, with it activating successfully.
-
It should work just fine.
-
sweet, looks like im going to use my "legit" x86 key with my not so legit x64 discs
-
It can be legit. IMO it is the key which determines the product's authenticity, not the media. As long as the media is virus free, you're good to go.
-
It should work. That is what I plan to do when I get mine. You should also be able to do this by using the 64-bit anytime upgrade DVD available from compusa.com for $5 (use coupon code shipitfree).
-
Can you provide a link?
-
You can order a 64-bit disc here, just change system type to 64-bit:
http://www.windowsanytimeupgrade.com/disc -
Here you go: http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...le&cm_ven=froogle&cm_cat=&cm_pla=&cm_ite=feed
looks like the shipitfree promo is over though
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Anytime-Upgrade-NAmerica-English/dp/B000MFGVWE -
shop.com : http://www.shop.com/op/~Windows_Any...h,_64_bit-prod-44311791-58316197?sourceid=298
$1.50 + $5.00 shipping to my address. -
Have you had any problems with driver support?
-
Excuse the n00bness, but do I understand correctly that I can just order the above DVD and it will upgrade my Vista installation to 64-bit?
Now for the more important question...what's the advantage?
A quick google search indicated that 64-bit wasn't a good idea due to poor driver support and no real advantage since almost all software is not 64-bit...
Vista x86 key use on for x64?
