I just did a clean install of xp on my T61. I installed the lenovo hotkey stuff, but the volume keys still don't work. When i press the volume up/down keys, the volume bar pops up, but it doesn't change. The mute key just doesn't work. Help.

To do that you need to download the ThinkVantage updater:

    ThinkVantage System Update 3.0

This program will allow you to install whatever thinkpad software you might need, important ones include the hotkey software that allows you to turn on and off the internal wireless and bluetooth. You cannot install the bluetooth driver without this utility.

The system update doesn't work for some reason. It always says the system update wizard was interrupted, system was not modified, etc.

I am having this problem as well. I just ran a clean install, I installed the hotkey software and it still doesn't work. Let me know if you figure it out and I'll let you know if I do

Update: I actually now realize that the buttons do work but nothing shows up on the screen when you press them, which is odd. It's the exact opposite of your case.

Yeah I would have to say it has something to do with unupdated software, if you cant use the system updater, try to software installer, if that doesn't work try downloading directly from the Lenovo site.

You dont have the "On Screen Display" program installed. Its on the T61 driver and software page.

still didn't work after all of this, i clean installed vista and it does work, however i don't like some of the other features of vista and I've been getting a few annoyances (explorer.exe always crashes when i visit my downloads folder). Has anyone actually gotten the volume keys to work on xp??
