Hi guys,
I was thinking of calling lenovo support but I thought I should ask the knowledgeable folks here first.
So after about a week of playing with my w500, I have started to notice some build quality issues that I didn't earlier. They are very small issues that might be regular for laptops (this is my first laptop) but they have been bugging me for the past few days...
So anyway, on my w500, there is a wide spread bump on the rubbery top. I can't really see it, but I can feel it when I run my hand over the top. Also, where the rubbery surface meets the bezel near the left hand lock, there is a small ~3 mm crack. Its kind of hard to explain so I have attached pictures of the crack. Lastly, it seems that the area right above the LAN port makes a soft clicking noise if I put weight on that area.
Those are the issues I have, now I am wondering, are they enough to make a warranty claim? Or are there any quick fixes you can recommend?
Edit: Sorry guys, I meant the two pictures to be a comparison. The right side is perfect, the left side lock is where the crack originates and spreads outwards.

I think the bump is just the rolling cage inside and the crack is nasty, but I don't have idea whether it is covered in warranty. Good luck!

Say no to crack.

It look bad have just try push back in see if clip in

The left side looks a little worse. Anyone else have picture of their W500 for comparative purposes?

build quality issue, get it fixed, call up Lenovo.

Hi, I also have a W500 and my top looks nothing like that. There is no crack. It looks like your right side, but across the whole top.

It really sucks, because I love the laptop otherwise. And I am not looking forward to going through Lenovo support to get this blunder fixed. I have read too many bad customer service stories here.....

I know the crack isn't ideal, but personally, I wouldn't bother exchanging a laptop over that.
-
If it were me i'd send it back and order a new one from their website. I also would not accept a replacement as it could be a refurbed unit.

I would try to fix the 'crack' issue by myself, if you're loving your Thinkpad I see risk involving sending it back to Lenovo to make some 'repairs.

I did leave a stack of softcover books on that corner in the morning. I will see if that helped when I return home...
Any suggestions on how to "fix" it otherwise?
