I feel like I've read about this issue somewhere before, but don't remember where and have no idea what to search for. regardless, whenever I reboot my laptop, it just sits at a black screen for 15-20 seconds. shutting down and starting up again doesn't have the same issue. The BIOS is up to date, I removed the intel turbo memory, installed an SSD, added ram, and usually swap out the disc drive for a hard drive. I just reinstalled windows so the disc drive is still in: YouTube - ‪P1110113‬‏

I secure erased the SSD using parted magic, and I believe when the computer rebooted after that was all finished, it still stalled. I don't remember if this occurred with the original hard drive.

also this is a bit off topic, but when I install windows, it sets the DPI scaling to 150% automatically. I like my 100% and have no trouble reading everything without scaling. even if I change the DPI scaling, it still leaves 150% at the logon screen. it doesn't bother me but if I can change it, I'd like to. :)

Your video didn't seem out of the ordinary to me.

My X220i running Vista, which is very similar to 7, seems about the same. The second video is XP, which tends to be faster as it has less overhead.

with XP the screen stays black for around 4 seconds, so it's either windows 7 or the SSD along with the laptop (my hp never did this with windows 7 and an SSD?) oh well I guess. thank you for the info.

it actually reboots more quickly with an old hard drive and XP, by around 15 seconds.
