Does the W500 support the X9100? And does it support quad core (Qx9300)?
Also, what kind of graphics card does it use? Is the 3650 MXM?

    It doesn't have graphics?

What can the 5700 be upgraded to?

The graphics card is not upgradeable as it is soldered to the motherboard. Most manufacturers do not use MXM cards.

Isn't it possible to unsolder it with tools?

You will most likely brick your machine

I have no idea but I'd love for you to try. :)

You're better off buying what you want in the first place than ruining a perfectly good machine. The W500 gpu will probably be enough for what you want in the first place, which brings up the question, what exactly will be your gpu needs?

I need to be able to play crysis at acceptable resolutions, and work heavily with ps/premiere pro.
@I don't understand how upgrading a GPU is ruining a computer?

Its not the same as upgrading a GPU on a laptop vs. a desktop. Desktop=easymode, laptop=nearly impossible. Most laptops have soldered on video cards, and the card from one machine probably won't fit in another machine.

I'm not sure what video card you have, but my quadro 570m can run crisis (at least on low, maybe medium). PS should be fine.

The entire circuitry for a GPU is soldered into the mainboard. All the components required to run the GPU may not be in the same place. You would need the knowledge and tools to unsolder the components and solder in the new ones.

The GPU is not a card/single module that is soldered onto the mainboard. But rather something that is engineered into the mainboard.

If you're willing to brick your machine, you'll have to figure it out yourself. Never heard of someone doing this on any lenovo

You would have to contact Lenovo for this information.

And I'm correctly assuming that they will not be willing to share it.

I call shenanigans, no one would buy a W500 just to rip out the GPU, solder a new one and then expect it to just work perfectly.

If you really need a better GPU than just pay for it and get a different machine all together. Look in the Sager line for high end GPU's at a fairly good price. Try Xotic Pc.

I second that a W500 is not a gaming rig, if you want high graphics horsepower and a faster processor go with a 15.4" sager.
