Just received my Lenovo Thinkpad W510. Admiring the build quality and keyboard and loving it! However when rebooting, I noticed on a darker screen you can tell there is probably 10-15 small airbubbles in the screen. Kind of looks like when you apply a screen protector to something, and you don't get all the air bubbles out. or a piece of dust gets trapped under the protector, you can see it creates a bubble.
That is what it looks like.
Can't really see it when the screen is at full brightness, but it is visible when brightness is turned down, or on a darkish screen. When screen is bright, and you look hard enough, you can see them.

Is there a screen protector on the screen that maybe didn't get applied properly? Should I contact my sales guy, or support? A bit of a sad point to notice this (and so soon)....hate to have the new laptop be torn open to replace a screen....

You better call up Lenovo service, you would need to replace the LCD.

This is such a downer. I dont see how this could pass QC.
    *shakes head*
I've never seen this problem with the thousands of laptops and desktop monitors at my workplace.
First personal lenovo I purchase, and get this....LOL

sorry to hear that you're having issues with the new laptop but as you describe it, the problem isn't immediately noticeable or that it's only more evident under certain conditions, so it could be something that is may not be caught by their QC.

Lenovo produces laptops in such numbers that we don't even know if all of them are individually checked or if they just do spot checks on a small number in each batch [which is typically the more common practice in this type of manufacturing].

as for "the thousands of laptops and desktops are your workplace [not having that problem]", unless that is your job to check or service the majority of them, i'd say that there's no validity to back up that opinion.

hope you get it sorted out to your satisfaction.

    filmbuff,
It is noticible as soon as you open the lid.

And i've worked on the deployment of lenovo desktops, monitors, and laptops at my company for a few years. I've never spotted this issue. It is Definitely abnormal.

I've contacted customer support, tech support and sales. been bounced between departments a total of 7 times today....sigh (mainly because depts keep transfering me to american depts....im in canada). Annoying.
At first, two reps assured me that Lenovo would ship me a new laptop (identical to my order as I just recv'd it), and then I would send my defective unit back. The final lady that was in the correct dept to assist me said this is not true, and I am to ship my laptop off first. No option to put down a deposit or anything. Just straight up inconvenience. Not to mention she couldn't spell "Air Bubbles"..... or most other words for that matter.

Im enjoying the quality of the keyboard and build so far. It is something I am used to from working with them so often. And it is quite powerful :)
