I'm seriously considering buying a W510 with the high gamut screen (I'm a photography buff, and my primary desktop computer has a beautiful Samsung high gamut 25-incher that I love). I have seen some posts here recommending NOT to get the Multitouch screen, although those posts by and large don't really explain why. However, since it's a free upgrade right now, and since it can evidently be disabled, I'm thinking, why not?

All you experienced W510 owners, please weigh in on this issue. I'm interested mainly in your perception of the effect, if any, of Multitouch on the viewing experience: in other words, does the Multitouch screen look worse in some sense than the non-Multitouch screen?

Also, I want to take this opportunity to thank all the people in this forum. I haven't bought a laptop in 5 years, and this forum has been a great help in evaluating the current offerings in the marketplace.

I think people recommend against the touch screen because the touch layer, which rests atop the LCD, effects the picture quality, giving it a more grainy look. I can see it on my tablet too because of the pen surface. I don't think it's that bad on mine though I have not seen the touch screen on the W510 or the W510 for that matter. If you can see it for yourself that'd probably be the best answer, but I suspect that'll be tough to do unless you know someone with one.

if you do photography stuff, get the non-multitouch version. The touch layer do affect the picture quality.

If you are a photographer, get the non multitouch screen. I have tested both side-by-side.

If you're stuck between getting the free upgrade to FHD Multitouch or just getting HD, I'd say go with FHD MultiTouch because even though it's got that extra touch layer, it'll still win hands down over HD 1366x768.

If you really don't want the touch layer, get HD+ or go all-out for FHD non-multitouch.
