    Hi!

I have w510 with 6 cell and I am very happy with notebook itself but what I do not like is battery life.

It only last for 1:30 hour or less.

how much improvement I can get if I order 9 cell battery? I am not interested in white paper measurement I would like to know end user experience.

For your notice I did some profiles to get most of the battery when running just on battery.

    Thanks!

the 9 cell will only give you 45 minutes extra so not much, W510 is not meant to be a portable laptop that you constantly use it on battery mode. It is more of a portable workstation that you take with you and plug into the ac once you arrived at your destination.

I was interested in buying a 4 cell W510 battery to lower the weight of this machine when traveling.

Anyone have good pictures that compare the 9, 6 and 4 cell batteries? I would also like to know if there is a significant difference in the weight of each. The specs seem to indicate not but I don't know if they are accurate.

Ok let say that I understand this but why is then HP Elite book which is also tagged as workstation and their battery which is included last for 3-4 hours without no problem.

This was checked whit my coworker having this pc.

which model of the workstation and what is the spec?

Also, are you using the laptop in battery saver mode or performance mode?

I will check the model and spec but they are the same as on my w510 except processor is same i7 familly different model.

I am using safe mode and brightness of monitor at 9-10. And if this so my battery last 1:30 or even less. Status drops very quick.

    Regards

safe mode? so with no thinkvantage power manager software installed?

If your friend has a dual core i7 on the HP then the battery use will be considerably less. So 3 hrs on a 9 cell is not something unheard of.

You can achieve 3 hrs too with the dual core version of the W510.

Safe mode doesn't really utilize the power saving options of any drivers...

With safe mode i was thinking that i have power management installed and configured how system is working when running on battery.

I think hp is dual core i7. Will check and let you know tomorrow.

that explains it, your friend's laptop uses 2 sticks of ram with i7 dual core, which explains why the battery life is longer.

i7 dual core version of HP workstation and W510 only has 2 ram slots, they are usually occupied by 2 ram sticks from the factory.

Your high power usage is due to the fact that you have a i7 quad core. Also, is your friend's HP using ssd or normal platter hdd? and what condition did he/she measure the power consumption under? ie. safe mode or normal windows environment, etc.

he use normal hdd. he used notebook in normal windows environment.

normal daily usage without ac/dc cable as I did it.

I can not believe that there is so much difference just in dual core or q. core processors.

i7 quad core is a power hog, this is why the w510 is equipped with the 135 watt adapter.

I am not sure how Lenovo will update the W510, hopefully the W510 will have something that uses less power.

Actually, won't it be a completely separate computer, the W520 that will get the second generation Core i7 processors?

I got the external battery for my W510. It is kind-of looks like a docking station, but instead has a set of 9 cells inside. Also, it props up the notebook at an angle which makes typing easier. With this, you still have your existing 6 cell internal pack in use so result is the combined capacity which lasts pretty long.

It is 57Y4545, but you can shop around and find a better price, I am sure.
