    W510 to W530... I'm thinking... "YES"

I have the W510 detailed below. An onsite tech overtightened a screw that goes into my palm rest back in August that caused a hairline crack to develop in the palm rest. I reported this in Sept and the part has been on back order iteratively, since then. The case was escalated due to the long sequence of delays and the next ETA for the part is Jan 21. After promised etas in Sept, Oct, Nov, and Dec, the sales force case manager asked if I would be happy with a new 2438-2MU as a no charge replacement. The only thing it seems that I'd be giving up is the digitizer from my W510 as that appears to have been removed as an option. Any reason not to take Lenovo up on this offer? I haven't really researched the W530, and I'm not familiar with potential/existing issues... Your experiences are welcome. I figure I can buy a Wacom pad if I miss touch...

    2438-2MU

    • i7-3920XM 2.90 GHz
    • 1920 x 1080 FHD
    • 16 GB RAM
    • 500 GB HDD
    • DVD-Writer
    • NVIDIA Quadro K2000M / Intel HD 4000 Graphics
    • Centrino Advanced-N 6205
    • Bluetooth
    • Webcam
    • Non-backlit US Keyboard
    • Finger Print Reader
    • Windows 7 Professional
    • 9-cell Battery
Great specs. I'd take it. :) You've used that W510 for a long while anyway. Don't shy away from the new keyboard and don't cry over the lack of backlit keyboard. I find that the non-backlit keyboard feels better.

I thought the specs were definitely better than my old rig. I;m not worried about the KB obviously as I have already invested in a T430s. Not sure if I would have if I had a W530 in hand before the buy. Can't win them all I suppose.

The keyboard isn't backlit... Darn! Well I'm sure to get over it quickly! The color sensor is included in this model...

Keyboard backlight implementations are not the same, and the ThinkPad implementation is not very hot.

Yeah, this TopSeller model includes the X-Rite Pantone color sensor.

I would go for the 2438-2MU replacement. No question about that.

I recently moved from the W510 to W530. W530 has a few quirks, but it works well. I did not like the W510 due to stability problems/freezing. The W530 is very stable and much better in that regard.

I have had no problems at all with my W510. The W520 is a different story.

I opted in... and I'm awaiting the new rig. As far as stability issues go with the W510, the only time I experienced any issues was when I used a 90 W AC adapter. As long as I operated on battery or with the 135 W AC adapter, smooth sailing!

Unfortunately it's like winning the lottery. It seemed a number of W510s had issues at my company. Identifying causes was the typical comical situation of internal tech support (blame Lenovo) -> lenovo support (blame OS and our installs) -> internal support...

I'm not 100% happy with the W530, but am having a better experience than the W510.

I've been fortunate as well with my W510. I had minor issues but it was never "down" for repairs.

I imagine you'll feel the same with the W530. Very solid and reliable!
