    Hi,

I am trying to connect my W510 (with NVidia Quadro FX 880M Video Adapter) to my external monitor (LG-M2762D and Samsung 40" LCD TV) via DisplayPort to HDMI Cable but the video quality is very bad the resolution won't match.

Is there any configuration I need to change on my laptop to have proper display resolution and color? Or could this problem be due to the cable itself?

    Appreciate your response.

    Thanks and Regards,

make sure your video resolution output on the laptop matches the 1920 x 1080 resolution of the TV.

Yes it does. For the same monitor if I connect through DVI/VGA then the display is fine. Only with HDMI I face this problem. All the images/text are kind of blurred and not sharp like in laptop.

Have you tried a different cable?

Yes. And now I am pretty sure this could be due to NVidia video adapter settings cause I went back to the shop where we tried with several different monitors and cables.

But during the process we found that on PC's with ATI video card there was an option of Overlay (Overscanning) and Underlay which made the video resolution look better with HDMI connectivity. We couldn't figure out similar option within NVidia.

Hasn't anybody tried connecting their Lenovo W510 to LCD TV or Monitor's through HDMI and faced similar problem?

I used the Lenovo HDMI to DVI adapter to connect the w510 to a Pioneer TV and it worked very well.

When I had a T500 I had both a display port to HDMI and display port to DVI adapter. I can't be sure right now but I believe the DP to HDMI was the one that was cropping the resolution to my TV. When I tried the DP to DVI it worked fine.

The point is, try another adapter.

Try using a different version of the video card driver. It matters.

I've seen this on a few TVs and monitors. The problem is a setting in the TV, not the computer. Make sure your TV is set to the right aspect ration. On one monitor I had to set it to use "TV" mode, and on my Samsung TV I need to set it to "Screen Fit" instead of 16:9. It's a bit of a baffling problem and the setting is probably not directly obvious in the TV.
