    Hi,

I received my W510 with Win7 Pro x64 installed and as a factory default I have following three partitions:

    SYSTEM_DRV - 1.17GB
    Windows7_OS ( C: ) - 221.95 GB
    Lenovo_Recovery ( Q: ) - 9.77GB

I already have a Win7 Ultimate license and thinking to format the whole HDD and re-partition as per my needs.

But before I do this, I want to know what data is stored in SYSTEM_DRV and Lenovo_Recovery partitions and will it be useful to take any files backup before formatting or should I leave these two drives intact and create partitions within the current C:? I have already created backup DVD disks of factory preload image using ThinkVantage Tools.

Is there anything else that I should be concern of before repartitioning and OS installation?

    Appreciate your response.

    Thanks and Regards,

Before you blow anything away, make a factory DVD disk set with the Thinkvantage Rescue and Recovery software.

I already did that. Anything other than this?

No, as long as you have the recovery disks, then you should be safe to reformat the entire drive.

What about the SYSTEM_DRV partition content? Would it be okay to delete it?

By default, Windows 7 creates 2 volumes now on a clean install. This is for Bitlocker to use. It stores system files in that volume which are loaded to enable the boot drive to then be mounted and decrypted.

If you are doing a complete re-install, you can delete all partitions and Windows 7 will re-create 2 again unless you manually tell it to create 1 using all the drive.
