Well, I'm in a position to inherit a used w510 but it has the HD display, which I dislike. I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade the display to the FHD display and how easy that would be. I believe the same FX880m graphics is used in all models of the W510, so it should support the FHD display. I'm thinking of getting the display from here:
LENOVO THINKPAD W510 LAPTOP LCD SCREEN
Any thoughts on if this swapout is possible and how easy it would be?
Thanks ahead of time for any help/suggestions.

My guess would be the screens you linked are not Lenovo parts, but compatibles. That means they'll fit and work, but are not Lenovo parts. Those screens tend to be of lessor quality in my experience. The FRU for the screen is 42T0765. I'm guessing if you can find one it'll be expensive. It's an AUO screen with a model number of B156HW01. There's some available on eBay, but I don't know if they'll work in a W510. According to the HMM the cable and LED sub card are the same regardless of the screen. If you can find a screen it should work. Of course this is said without having seen one.

ZaZ: Thanks for your input and the part numbers, it's very much appreciated. The place I linked, ScreenCountry, carries AUO, LG, etc screens. I used them before to replace an Asus (G73) laptop screen for a friend who cracked his. His screen was an AUO, and I requested and ScreenCountry sent me an AUO screen which fit perfect. I looked on Ebay and the FHD screens are going to around $150 USD, so buying from ScreenCountry will save me a few bucks. Their customer support is great too. I didn't know that the W510 screen was an AUO, so thanks for that info. So hopefully things will go as I think they will and I'll have a W510 soon.
