I'm looking to purchase a W520 and since they aren't available where I live, Turkey, I have decided to ask a friend to buy it for me from the Lenovo website in Germany. The standard warranty for W520 is 3 years customer carry in and I would either like to upgrade it to 4 years courier collect with Thinkpad Protection or 5 years courier collect, but the trouble is that the warranty upgrades i managed to find on online shops specifically refers to models prior to W520 and not W520. What's worse is that Lenovo shop only offers 3 year warranties as upgrades so I have to purchase it separately. Can anybody refer to me which warranties I should buy for either of the two scenarios or give me a reference to look up different available warranties for W520 with a 3 year customer carry in?

    Thanks in advance.

If you're able, I would chat with Lenovo sales support.

My scenario was a bit different from yours though:
    1. When I bought my X220 from them, I upgraded the warranty to 1 yr On site with no thinkpad protection. This option only allows you to upgrade (from the website) to 2 yr on site.
    2. I wanted to upgrade the warranty to more than 1 yr with TPP, but the option wasn't on the site.

I asked the lady if it was possible, and she told me it was not. I was persistent and said I'd be willing to pay extra for a better warranty service, and she asked her manager, then came back and offered me a 2 yr depot service upgrade with TPP.

    Best of luck...!

Actually, my issue is not primarily about not being able to get the warranty upgrade together with my purchase from the Lenovo Shop online, but not having a clue as to the product code of the warranty upgrade I should be buying from any random online retailer to apply to this model so I can later upgrade using Lenovo's support website. I don't have a reference guide to pick which warranty upgrade I can buy so I can have extended warranty and perhaps Thinkpad Protection. In fact, I might just be looking for a German version of the Warranty Service Upgrade parts list.

You should probably note service levels vary by country and machine type. If you buy W520 in Germany with TPP, TPP may not be available in Turkey for your machine.

As far as I learned from checking the IWS, thanks to your sticky, the 4284 machine code covers my country but I have no idea about TPP particularly. Are you certain that TPP and IWS are separately applied with regards to which country they are used in?

I also seem to have figured out which warranty upgrade might be applied to my particular model, the 41K0424 which is basically a 4 year version of the 3 year courier pick up and return + TPP offered by Lenovo Shop as 41K0421, with the purchase of the laptop.

Well, it's either W520 from Germany or a similarly spec'd M4600 which is the only available 15.6" workstation class laptop in Turkey.

I firmly understand what you're saying but when my only alternative is Dell support... in Turkey... I don't have much of a choice. I require a quad-core laptop with VT-D support in both the graphics, processor and chipset and an i7-27x0, QM67 and Quadro are only available to me in W520 or M4600.
