Hi everyone, I'm thinking about buying a ThinkPad W520 at Hong Kong, and I need the Nvidia Quadro because I use CAD programs and 3D programs. Can you guys tell me what is the base specs of the W520? Because I saw it at a website with a Intel GMA HD3000 and I thought it was with the Nvidia Quadro.

The base GPU is a NVidia Quadro 1000M, Optimus-switchable with an Intel HD3000.

For more detailed information, consult tabook.pdf as found here.

High GPU performance= Poor battery life
Good battery life = Poor GPU performance

Optimus gives you the best of both worlds by switching the GPU when needed. So if you're just browsing the web you can get good battery life with the Intel 3000. If you need to run a game or any GPU heavy program, it'll switch over to the Nvidia.

Make sure the W520 has the 1600x900 or 1920x1080 display. Don't buy it if it has 1366x768, that's the bad screen. It has bad image quality and limited screen space because the resolution is so low that it makes text and other things look rather big.
