W520s seem to be the best thing on the market. Only problem is, there seems to be a problem with getting a connector since it was made in Northern Japan. I ordered mine on 4/12/11 and it was suppose to ship yesterday, today they changed the estimated ship date to 5/12/11.
So I hope you don't mind waiting awhile to get it, frankly i sure do. I kinda need it for school, lol. -
As long as it's not emitting radioactive particles when I get it I'll accept that. I'm hoping for 5/20 or earlier. Wow, that's a month away. I guess I'll start reading the huge W520 owner's thread....maybe I'll be finished by the time I get mine!
You got the same config? I wonder how much I'm missing out on the FHD. The only solace I have is that it just wasn't in my budget. -
My config is:
Intel Core i7-2820QM Processor (2.30GHz, 8MB L3)
Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64
Display type 15.6" HD+ (1600 x 900) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
System graphics NVIDIA Quadro 1000M Graphics with 2GB DDR3 Memory
Total memory 8 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
Pointing device UltraNav with TrackPoint & touchpad plus Fingerprint reader
Camera 720p Camera
Hard drive 500 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
Optical device DVD recordable multiburner
System expansion slots Express Card Slot & 4 in 1 Card Reader
Battery 9 cell Li-Ion Battery - 55++
Bluetooth Bluetooth 3.0
Intel Centrenio N+ WiFi
Fingerprint Reader
Lol. I was hoping for next week. Since i kinda need it for school and all...
Anyway, i guess as long as i get it 'on time' and it works i'll be happy. -
Where'd you get the estimated ship date? I checked my status here...
https://www.lenovoorders.com/orderstatus/index.cfm# -
If you look on your order by the price of it at the top-ish. It will have a column for "Est. Ship Date" If its blank that means 'that there is a problem with your order."
Mine disappeared for two days and came back showing a delay of three weeks.... -
Shoot, 5/17 estimated ship date.
Can I please get some SSD advice now....
1. Is it recommended to physically install SSD boot disk to the drive cage on the bottom of the notebook? I want to be able to hotswap my secondary drive with my DVD drive in case I need to burn something. I don't use a cd/dvd enough to get an external.
2. Are there any heat/vibration/noise concerns putting the SSD in the bottom cage and HDD in the ultrabay?
The other option I've pondered over is to go with the intel msata 80GB drive. Cost difference is somewhat offset by not needing the $60 ultrabay adapter. The biggest drawback is poor writing speeds
W520 purchased!!!
