I have just bought a new W530 and its screen is a great disappointment: horrible vertical grid lines (screen door effect), especially in dark areas. It is not even closely comparable with nice old FHD screens (I own two W520, both panels are B156HW01 v4).

My old W520 panels are identified as B156HW01 v4, but the new W530 screen reads B156HTN01.1. I've seen many complaints regarding that latest inferior LCD panel - mostly vertical grid lines.

So, I called Lenovo and they are prepared to replace the screen under warranty, but I am not sure if I can get any better one, unless it will be from the old batch.

My question to the W530 owners who happened to have the same B156HTN01.1 panel: are there any good ones around without pronounced vertical grid lines or all of them are horrible?

I've seen five or six of the 1.1 panels and all of them were outright junk.

Hopefully, the depot will have a "serviceable used" V4 for your machine.

    Good luck.

A quick update on the case. I sent my W530 to Lenovo service center as they preliminary agreed to replace the screen with the "screen door" effect. Having received the laptop, they called me stating that the screen is normal and passes all tests. I had a hard time to explain these guys what the "screen door" effect is and, after 40 min of arguing, they agreed to replace the screen.

Two days after, they sent the update that the screen had been replaced and the laptop is being tested. Next day I had another update that they need to replace the whole motherboard as its connector to the LCD is faulty. How come? I guess these clowns broke the connector when replaced the screen. Otherwise it is difficult to explain why the motherboard needs to be replaced on the brand-new laptop.

Now I am waiting for new updates and have no ideas what to expect. Anyway, after using 5 Lenovo workstations in the past and being their loyal customer for over 20 years, this is the last one for me. Never again. It is really so disappointing how they managed to flash a perfect product to the toilet.

I bought a B156HW01 v4 off ebay. It was cheap and I only have 1 stuck pixel. Replaced it myself in 15 mins.

I was hoping that Lenovo could do the replacement quickly and painlessly since they agreed to do so. Also, would replacing the LCD myself violate the warranty?

    No.

I used to install AUO B156HW01 V4 panels (which are difficult to find these days) on a number of ThinkPads.
