    W530 boot from USB or CD possible?

    I'm trying to boot my W530 from a Win 98 startup CD and also a USB stick, I'm old fashioned I want to ghost the OS and I always do it under DOS is this possible?

    You can certainly boot from disc or USB; there are a variety of boot options in BIOS. I don't have any experience with creating or copying a system image from DOS, so I can't give any input on that.

    On a side note, if you plan to install Windows 98, you will likely lose USB 3 functionality, as the Intel driver is unlikely to work with that operating system.

    Or if you are trying to make a system image of Windows 7 or 8, why not use the included Lenovo Rescue & Recovery or default Windows recovery software?

    I'd be surprised if Windows 98 will boot on that machine. I couldn't even get Windows 2000 setup to boot on my HP 6530b (Core 2 Duo laptop).

    when I f12 into the alternate boot menu my msata drive i put in is the only option.

    You may want to go into BIOS (press F1 on boot) and make sure that other boot options are enabled...
