Hi guys i just wanted to make a quick post commenting on the W530's gaming ability with the K2000 card.

Everything i read about it seemed to indicate that it could do some light gaming...

But really it has surpassed all my expectations.

I am able to play Planet Side 2 on Medium settings at 1600x900 with absolutely 0 lag. With my new SSD it also loads in seconds.

I did not take any comprehenvive tests but i really was not expecting this. Planet Side 2 is a really hefty game with 100's of players on the screen at the same time and... this laptop runs it incredibly well.

Of course simple games like League of Legends play perfectly on all highest settings.

I have not tried any other games but considering just how taxing PS2 is, this is a really good indicator. I did not expect such good performance.

I just wanted to let you all know :)

I have played a number of games on my W530, and it handles Starcraft 2 (high settings), Batman: Arkham Asylum (medium-high settings), Skyrim (high settings), Bioshock 2 (max settings), Portal 2 (max settings), & Civilization V (medium-high settings) perfectly fine in native 1920x1080 resolution. The K2000M has roughly the same DirectX performance of a 650M with DDR3 memory.

Considering that I can play at max settings @ 1080p without lag with most of my games (BFBC2, CivIV and V, Mirror's Edge, Portal 1 and 2, Supreme Commander 2, etc) using the 2000M, I'm not very surprised that the W530's K2000M can handle games very well. It's basically a professional GT 650M.

I had the K2000 and it is not that great for gaming. Can't even play Counterstrike GO on medium settings that well.

Are you sure Optimus was set correctly to use the K2000M and not the integrated graphics? According to Notebook Check, Counterstrike: Global Offensive should run fluidly (60+ frames per second) on the K2000M, so if you're having problems, your system may not be running the game with the correct graphics card. A quick switch via the Nvidia control panel should fix the issue.

The K1000M seems to do alright too. It struggles with some higher-level games(Trials Gold, GTAIV, etc), but I can run most things at 1080p with generally little lag. For a broke college student, the K2000M was a little pricey haha.

Depends on how good your haggling skills are. I got my loaded W520 for $1665, down from the retail $2167, back in May 2011.

I had a problem where in games like Leauge of legends, every time i spell was cast the card would switch to Intel graphics, causing insane lagg spikes.

I went to BIOS and set it to use Discrete graphics, and from then on it gamed like a champ.

Now i only switch to intel graphics if i am on a long road trip and need the extra battery.
