    Hi everybody,

I ran into the following problem.
My main display is a dell u2711 running at 2560x1440, when I connect an LG full hd led tv trough VGA, the highest resolution I can get is 1024x168 instead of 1920x1080.
I'm using a rather short VGA cable that shipped with the dell monitor, so the bandwidth should be high enough.
The screen of the notebook itself is always closed.

Is there something I'm forgetting or is the W530 not capable of providing these screens with a higher resolution?

    Thanks in advance.
ps: if somebody is able to get 5.1 audio trough the dell u2711, you may always contact me.

Are you running with BIOS set to utilize internal Intel HD graphics as well as Nvidia graphics, or just discrete Nvidia graphics?

And what about the BIOS setting for "OS detect for Optimus"? ENABLED, or DISABLED?

And what do you have specified in Windows power plan for "behavior when laptop lid is closed"?

And how do you have Nvidia Control Panel configured for both (a) setup for multiple displays, and (b) change resolution? What is the maximum resolution available for each of your Dell monitor and LG TV?

I assume you are using "extended desktop" spread across both external monitors,

    These are all relevant.

In my experience closing the lid produces subsequent issues (like if it goes to sleep when you close the lid and ou were using just the external monitor, and then you bring it out of sleep by opening the lid and you now have BOTH the external monitor and laptop screen operating when you only wanted the external monitor as was the case before you put it to sleep by closing the lid). As long as the laptop screen is off and you're using the external monitor(s) only, why do you care to close the laptop lid?
