Hi all, I finally decided to create a thread about this after doing some research for a few days into an infuriating problem with the M2 SSD in my W550s. I've noticed that many people experience either a 2100 or 2101 error in the BIOS screen that says something like "detection error on HDD1 SSD (SATA)" when booting. I bought the W550s a few weeks ago and replaced the stock RAM with corsair vengeance 2x8GB and reinstalled Win8.1 to a Transcend 256GB M2 SSD.

When I first set everything up on the SSD, it all worked fine. Then a day later, I came to the computer in the morning and it had the 21o1 error. As was mentioned in some other posts, a quick fix is to shut the computer down for a while and then it will be able to detect the M2 again. This worked, but clearly is not a fix because the computer will blue screen if it loses connection to the SSD while running. Then I updated the BIOS to the latest 1.07 version available on the Lenovo website. That worked fine for a few days, but I just got the 2101 error again. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? The SSD firmware is up-to-date and I already performed a system refresh on the SSD after some problems with windows defender not working. I feel like I am out of options.

    Hi,
I just received my w550s friday and does same upgrade as you
install 2 ddr3l HyperX and an m2 adata ssd 256gb as boot drive
Till now, no problem, I cross fingers.
I read some ppl who have same problems as you on the lenovo forum
Maybe an incompatibility with the transcend ssd or memory.
Have you tried using the lenovo ram ?

I have not tried the lenovo RAM because other forum posts say that the problem is independent of the RAM. Beware W550 buyers, it seems that the M2 boot disk configuration is not reliable. I would be interested to know if anyone has ordered the machine with the lenovo-installed 16gb M2 drive and if that has any problems...

I have w550s with lenovo installed 16gb and I installed ADATA SP600 256gb 2242 M.2. SSD. I experience the same problem 1 day after installation. Latest firmware and updates on board. Has anyone come to some solution?

Yes I have the exact same issue. Have a T450S with a Samsung Pro 256G SSD for boot and added an Adata 256G SP600 M.2 SATA and with either M.2 slot in the T450S it will initialize and be active for a few minutes and then it dissapears. Initially disk management and Adatas own SSD diags pass fine then it just dissapears. I have turned off all PCIE power options and every thing else I can think of to no avail so whatever it is must be the T450's issue as the Adata works in other machines fine. I sure hope they get this sorted out as it really makes my plan useless now to expand the laptops capabilities.

Well I will know in a couple of days. Some threads seem to suggest the MyDigitalSSD 256G drive does work so I have one on order and will reply if it does.

This reminds me of issues the X220 had with mSata drives. Back then the BIOS would sporadically fail to recognise the drive when it was powered off for some time. If I remember correctly, it was rectified with a BIOS update.
