Alright, so this gorgeous super thin graphics card, the FX 3700M came today. Just holding and looking at it, it almost looks like it's from the future lol...

So have any of you attempted the installation yet? I have installed new CPU's on my T60p (T2500 Core Duo x86 CPU @ 2.0GHz ---> T7600 Core 2 Duo x64 CPU (2.33GHz), which was a more invasive task. It worked just fine, and the T7600 is the fastest that the T60p's system board allowed for.

I had to "go in again" though, as the thing was bathing in thermal compound LOL). So I redid it, and all was just fine.

What do you think? It's on the upper deck, so to speak, right? Is it easy to get to? It's bigger than a mini-PCI-e slot. If anyone wants it, do tell, as I can always get another one. It is now a whopping $700 option (used to be $500 for months). Why do you think it went up?

Damn, this is so much fun! :)

swapping the GPU is easy.   just watch the video and follow the instructions.

regarding the cost increase, the value of the US dollar has dropped in between stock shipments.   this unfortunately has to be passed onto the consumer.

besides that, the FX 3700m sells in VERY low quantity.   costs fluctuate on low-volume items quite a bit.

regarding performance, the FX 2700m is already an extremely capable GPU for 90% of users.   the only ones who will benefit from the 3700 are doing heavy work in 3D, large-scale video editing (home movies don't count here), or working in extremely large 2D files in photoshop (500+ MB minimum).   for any other task, the 2700 is the better way to go.   it runs cooler, uses less power, and (like i said) does a perfectly good job for 90% of users.
