So supposedly this model officially only supports the Professional edition of Windows 7. At least that's what I got from this thread by CrunchDude:

My W700 that'll arrive in a couple of weeks will have a 64-bit Vista on it and I'm no longer eligible for the free upgrade. Here in Finland the Professional upgrade costs more than 100e than the Home Media upgrade, and the former includes really nothing I'd benefit from so I really wouldn't like to spend the extra money for nothing.

Any experiences/info? It seems silly that the Home Media wouldn't function, it's basically the same thing, right?

I don't have a W700 nor have I seen one. One possibility would be to buy home premium and see if it works. If you don't like it, if it's a retail copy, you can always sell it and get pro. Personally I don't find Windows 7 to be all that better or different from Vista. You could try Vista to see if you like it and that don't cost nothing.

Yeah, Home Premium. Don't know why I put Home Media up there.

You don't find W7 to be "lighter"/more efficient/better performing on your ThinkPad?

Also the Vista I'll have will be in German :p. Going to do some research on whether it's easy or even possible to change the language. Tips/info on this would be appreciated.
