I got a new W700 about a month ago. It has started to freeze occasionally. Sometimes it throws me to a blue screen that says something like "Hardware malfunction" and "Contact vendor". Sometimes it just freezes and doesn't respond to anything, mouse pointer doesn't move either. In both cases you have to just turn off the power and restart it.

It has a 2,8Ghz dual core with 4 gigs of RAM. The OS is 64-bit Vista Professional that was originally in German but I changed it to English with Vistalizer.

Any ideas? Has anyone else faced similar problems? I googled the error messages and it seems like it might have something to do with the RAM?

What are your idle and load CPU/GPU temps?

Do I have to install a specific program to find that out or is that something that can be seen on Vista?

The computer itself feels very, very cool at all times compared to some other notebooks I've had. Even when I've run some modern games.

I found the memtest and will try it.

As for the temps, - HWinfo32 (use the latest ver.) should do.

Both of the CPU cores are at about 42C and the GPU is at 50C. That's like 110 and 120 respectively in fahrenheits.

I'll be running the memtest later tonight. If it notices some errors with the RAM, is there any merit to opening up the laptop and seeing if there's anything wrong where the RAM is at? Like one of them could be attached to the motherboard poorly etc?

These are perfect for idle temps.
Even if the memtest was ok there's still a chance that one of your RAM sticks is the culprit. Try removing one and see if the problem persists, then swap them etc.
