ok. while i wait for the release of 680m SLI, i figured i'd tinker with my oldtimer, w700ds.

so i ran furmark and the temps shoots up from 58 idle to 95 in no time. into 8 minutes, it hit the magical 100 degree Celsius at which time i stopped the test.

during the entire test, the video fan spins at extremely low speed with almost no noise. that's the typical behavior during the normal non-game use of w700ds. i love it cuz it ensures silent operation.

but i don't get why the fan do not speeds up as the temp rises. inexplicably, while on furmark test, CPU fan span up little faster. but video fan stays pretty much the same even at the near 100 degrees. i did observe short burst of fan spinning up little faster but it lasts like 2 seconds and then it immediately spins down.

since fan is working fine, i don't think it's the physical malfunction. perhaps it's designed to be a silent laptop even while it's being tortured?

i would appreciate if u guys could offer remedy or suggestion to this problem. thanks

What kind of temperatures do you get using other benchmarks (3DMark Vantage or such) ?

I am asking because you pretty much never have the GPU used in a real world application in the way Furmark does (see e.g. here). Also have you tried the TPFanControl software and setting it to max setting manually? (I'd still rather test it on games or 3DMark benchmarks)

tpfancontrol, unfortunately doesn't control the GPU fan.

    Hm sorry, my bad!

Maybe you can give a try HWInfo64 Fan Control feature, I am just not sure whether W700ds is supported. On the other hand, the author of that software may add the support for it if you ask him. :)
